Process Paper
Why I Chose This Topic: I chose the El Paso Diablos because baseball has been an important conribution to El Paso's economy. People used to close their shops so everyone could see the Browns, the oldest official El Paso team. Many people also enjoy the "Fan-Friendly", environment originally created by Jim Paul. Choosing this topic was an awesome idea because many of my classmates have been and appreciate the team and their games.
How I Conducted My Research: I found that El Paso baseball had a major impact on not just the minor leagues, but also the Majors. I conducted my research by visiting many useful and fact-filled websites to improve my knowledge base. Then i went to the El Paso Historical Society and found information on my time period, 1890's, and put it on my source sheets. With the information gathered about 1890's El Paso, I was able to create a Travel Guide. After that i managed to get an interview with Jim Paul, the man who revolutionized baseball. Finally I had collected way more information than I expected.
How I Created And Developed My Project: I decided to do a website because I didn't have access to a lot of art materials. I went to www.weebly.com to create my free website. I registered it under the sub-domain www.elpasodiabloshistory.weebly.com Then i copied the information from my source sheets and put it on the online. My catagories were: The Arts, What To See and Do, What to Wear, and Local Customs of 1890's El Paso. To finish it off I put the Annotated Bibliography, the interview with Jim Paul, the Travel Guide, some important photos, published it, and my website was done.
7th Grade Theme:
My project would fit the criterier in the "Odyssey" theme because in a way Jim Paul set on an adventure. He revolutionized baseball and expanded existing knowledge of how to use promotions. It required a lot of leadership, confidence, planning, and risk-taking on his and his staffs' part. As a consequence Jim Paul could've lost his job and ruined the organizations reputation. Even though it worked out, people still dislike it. I read an article that said "It isn't even baseball anymore, its more of a show with prizes. If your looking to enjoy a game, I wouldn't recommended this one." However there are too many people that do like this, so much so that even major league teams have used these "Fan-Friendly" promotions.
